Our World Without Religion
Over the past 60 years or so, academia has placed religion on trial and, in most cases, has found it guilty. Guilty of what you ask? Guilty of wars, hate, intolerance, racism, and anything else they can think of. John Lennon summed up these ideas in his icon "Imagine" song with the lyrics, "Nothing to kill or die for and no religion, too." There, of course, are radicals in almost every religion that use their beliefs as an excuse for violence, but isn't it possible those idiots would use any excuse (I'm thinking of Putin here)? The definition of religion is "the belief in and worship of God or Gods." Sadly, academia, Hollywood, and many of our leaders have succeeded in creating a world with almost no religion in it. How many young people do you know that are deeply religious? Around the world, the numbers continue to drop. Believing in God gives us a sense of identity, a higher purpose, and a moral compass. So, are we happier and more well-adjusted now that we are less religious? Is our nation's mental health better now that we have taken God out of almost everything? Unless you're wearing some pretty tinted glasses, it's easy to see we are hurting. Yes, we could and should improve some gun laws, better enforce the ones we have, enhance security at schools, and invest in more councilors, but those measures will not cure the underlying disease. We need to know that God does exist and that he loves us. We need to know that life is so much more than the emptiness that Hollywood offers. We need to put religion back at the top of our priority list. I applaud Chick-fil-A for being closed on Sundays for religious reasons. May we all have the courage to stand up for God in our own way. May God bless America and all the children around the world that are hurting at this time!
